PhD Position (f/m/x) in Biological Physics

Bacteria are unicellular organisms, yet they can form structured communities called biofilms. Researchers in the Maier group study collective effects in biofilms combining tools from physics and microbiology. The specific research project focuses on the formation of extracellular DNA networks in early biofilms and its role in biofilm mechanics and antibiotic tolerance.

Postdoc (f/m/x) in Biological Physics

Horizontal gene transfer shapes bacterial evolution and is an important factor in the development of antibiotic resistance. The researchers in the Maier group study gene transfer by combining tools from physics, microbiology, and laboratory evolution. This research is part of the collaborative research center CRC 1310 and focuses on fitness effects of cross-species gene transfer. This project aims at understanding the evolution of multidrug resistance in model and ESKAPE bacteria through horizontal gene transfer.
